"Art ... must do something more than give pleasure: it should relate to our own life so as to increase our energy of spirit.",
Maria was born in Poland. As a child, she was keenly interested in painting
and drawing and she won an international drawing competition in Germany at
the age of 15.
The following years, she studied Marketing and Management at Krakow, Poland
and received M.A in 1997. In 2001 she moved to California where she studied
Microchip Layout Mask Design and where she finally discovered art as her true
passion.
In September 2002, she became an active member of
Pacific Art League,
where she exhibited some of her artwork at the following shows:
Her paintings can be found in many private collections across United States, and
several private collections internationally.
As an artist, she is primarily self-taught, preferring pure experiments on
a blank canvas and her direct observation of life.
For Maria, an act of painting is the greatest and the most honest form of
communication with the world. She uses painting to explore and discover the
interaction between balance and chaos, dialog and silence, real and unreal.
She starts her painting ritual by building up surfaces with layers of paint,
sand, incorporated pieces of found materials and papers, scratching and
sanding the surface over and over again. She explores the potential of the
blank canvas with variety of brushes, palette knives, fingers, and rags.
During the process of painting, she applies paints in quick, free manner letting
symbols, colors and shapes emerge in the process of creation to the
accompaniment of her favorite music.
She begins creating her pieces with no concept in mind but instead allows her
intuition and creativity play the main role.
Her unique style of painting creates rich texture, great sense of depth as
well as complex range of color in her works.
